Annual Meeting

- Present- Randy Taylor Secretary-Treasurer; Mike Armstrong, Officials Committee Chairman; and Amy Sasser-Member Club-Pole Vault Unlimited. Also were USATF members and interested individuals represented by John Mitchell, Ken Merritt, Tom McBee, Alan Thompson, and John McGee.
- Taylor reported that Andy Martin, USATF Director of Grass Roots Programs, wrote Doug Spencer, President, on 9-28-07 that stated the Arkansas Association was approved for Provisional Accreditation status for the 2007-2008 time period. Martin forwarded the 2006 Association Statistical & Current Accreditation Report which reflected that our Association met 4 of the 8 Required Standards and 2 of the 9 Other Standards in 2006. In 2004 and 2005, our Association also met 4 of the 8 Required Standards and 2 of the 9 Other Standards.
- Taylor made the financial report and presented the FYE 9-30-07 Financial Statement which included a balance sheet and income statement. Cash balance at Bank of the Ozarks was $15,066.91. Annual Revenues were $4,341.89 with Net Income of $2,278.39.
- Tom Aspel, Membership Chair, reported to Taylor by cell phone that current membership is currently 110. We have consistently been in the100-120 member range for the past six years. USATF Standard for Arkansas is 600 members.
5. Taylor reported that the Arkansas Association has 6 Organizational Club Members for 2007 represented by Club Arkansas, Arkansas Vault Club, Bell Athletics, Team ArkansasRunner.com, Little Rock Road Runners Club, and Pole Vault Unlimited.
- Taylor reported that our association was unable to secure a Youth Chairman for 2007 and no Youth championships were staged. Jay Flanagan, Youth Chairman for approximately 20 years, retired as Head Track & Field Coach at Arkansas State University in 2006 and gave our association notice that he would transition out as Youth Chairman, effective 12-31-06.
John McGee made a proposal to request consideration to fill the position as Youth Chairman and assume the responsibility of initiating Youth championships for track & field and cross country during the 2008 season. He received unanimous support from the Board based on his previous experience of conducting youth meets with the AAU.
We discussed our $1,000 Grant recognized that it was originally received as incentive to expand Youth membership and assist with relocating the Youth championships.
7. Taylor made LDR report on behalf of Kim Howard, LDR chairman. The 2007 USATF/RRCA Grand Prix included 20 races with results compiled for overall individual and teams, masters, grand masters, and seniors as well as in every five-year age division.
- Mike Armstrong, Officials Chairman, reported that we have 149 USATF certified officials registered through the Arkansas Association. Armstrong was very successful in conducting the testing process for renewals in Northwest Arkansas during 2004 and continues to oversee annual testing in several locations throughout the state. He stated there continues to be strong interest in working meets due to the NCAA Indoor and meets at the recently renovated/expanded John McDonnell Field.
9. Election of Officers. Mike Armstrong was elected President; John Mitchell, Secretary-Treasurer; Bobby Thurman, Vice President; Tom Aspel, Membership Chairman; John McGee, Youth Chairman; Randy Taylor, Men’s and Women’s LDR, Masters LDR and XC; Doug Spencer, Masters T&F and Mike Armstrong, Chairman of Officials. Armstrong to appoint a Chairman of Men’s T&F and Women’s T&F prior to year-end.
