Requirements for Advancement of Officials

Advancement from Association level to National level Official:

“A National level official should demonstrate knowledge of the rules and procedures for their specialty areas. He or she should be capable of being the lead official of an event or area at a non-championship meet.”

  1. At least two years of officiating experience at the Association level.
  2. Submit a letter to the Certification Chair requesting an upgrade and identifying the areas to be upgraded.
  3. A resume’ of meets worked over the past two years. Meet requirements are:

    1. Officiated in at least eight meets over the past two years. This can include high school, college, national, and international meets.
    2. Officiated in the area requested to be upgraded in at least half of the meets worked over the past two years.

  1. Completed the National level rules review.
  2. A letter of recommendation from a Master level official in the specialty area to be upgraded and under whom the applicant has worked.
  3. Approval of the Arkansas Association Certification Committee.


Advancement from National level to Master level Official:

“A Master level official should demonstrate knowledge of the rules and procedures for their specialty. He or she should be capable to be the lead official of an event or area at a championship meet, to teach their specialty at a clinic, and to train younger officials.”

  1. At least three years of officiating experience at the National level.
  2. Submit a letter to the Certification Chair requesting an upgrade and identifying the areas to be upgraded.
  3. A resume’ of meets worked over the past five years. Meet requirements are:

    1. Officiated in at least twenty-five meets over the past five years. This can include high school, college, national, and international meets.
    2. Officiated in the area requested to be upgraded in at least half of the meets officiated over the past three years.

  1. Completed the Master level rules review.
  2. A letter of recommendation from a Master level official in the specialty area to be upgraded and under whom the applicant has worked.
  3. Approval of the Arkansas Association Certification Committee.
